Model of a large Mesolithic pit excavated at Stonehenge. The figure below shows a comparison between the excavation plan and the frequency domain electromagnetic (FDEM) data over excavation trench T1 where this Mesolithic pit was excavated. The excavation section shows the boundaries between different stratigraphic layers, whereby the yellow line represents the interface between the magnetically enhanced fills, overlying weakly to diamagnetic fills . The maps at the bottom shows apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) data recorded under wet and dry conditions, with the 2 m HCP IP data, representing magnetic soil variations, shown as well. The red polygons on this final map, show the semi-automatically delineated pit boundaries, generated through object based image analysis.
