Ferriter’s castle and promontory fort is located on the north western fringes of the Dingle Peninsula, overlooking the Neolithic- Mesolithic transitional site of Ferriter’s Cove. The promontory fort houses Ferriter’s castle, defences, hut sites, enigmatic bunkers, house sites and field walls. The site has been and continues to be heavily battered by weather and sea. The rectangular keep of the castle was badly damaged by storms in 1845, since undergoing repair works. The sheer cliff faces of the fort show evidence of ongoing erosion, with damage to peripherally located hut sites. The Discovery Programme collected laser scan, drone, archaeological walkover and recording data. Future investigation with geophysical survey aims to identifying new features and provide greater insight into previously identified features; especially those enigmatic in nature and harder to categorise. Data collection will continue to monitor ongoing change and give insights into past changes on this dynamic headland
