The exterior of Rochester Cathedral features the mid-C12th West Facade and nave aisles with a C15th clerestory and Lady Chapel on its south side. The east end dates to after a fire of 1179 and the nave transept and quire aisles to the mid-late C13th. The Chapter Library Roof has been dendrochronologically dated to the time of the Black Death c.1340, when the first crossing tower was raised. Much of the exterior was replaced or restored in three C19th campaigns. The current Bell Tower replaced the previous in 1904 and a spire added to model the first recorded crossing tower.
