It is a remake of a museum piece (Wallace Collection A479). The original piece was put together in 19th century, which was probably just for decoration and not for practical uses. Tod took the idea and improved the design and made it a very functional sword.
It’s interesting to note that the finger ting on the guard is probably a decorative piece just like many other pieces in this time period. You probably cannot fit your finger through it.
