Axe head
This type of axe has a massive square butt and the oval wood handle eye. The blade has a rectangular cross-section and ends in a curved cutting edge. Around the eye the axe head is thickened in order to ensure a better steadiness of the handle. It’s worth pointing out that all the tested similar artefacts have a hardened cutting edge. As tools used for a wide range of purposes, from cutting trees to carpentry, axes are very frequent among the Dacian findings in Orăştiei Mountains, a few dozens of them being known by now.
