17th c. brick hearth and foundation3D ModelNoAI
Brick architecture from a c.1670-1690s building on a private town lot at Charles Towne settlement. This model shows the base of a brick hearth & an earlier segment of intact brick foundation.
portable X-ray Flourescence, conducted by Dr. Carolyn Dillian at Coastal Carolina University, found that the bricks from the hearth & foundation segments were made from a different clay mixture helping show that they were not built at the same time & the hearth was likely a later improvement to the building. Studies like this help us better understand the colonists used & renovated the buildings through time.
