18th Century Naval Cannon - Cast Iron 3D Model
A scan of an 18th century cast iron naval cannon a relic of the Napoleonic war. Originally salvaged in 1996 by the crew of the fishing boat Ocean Reaper a North East Scottish registered vessel from Fraserburgh. Approximate position 40 miles south east of Lerwick, Shetland. The condition of the cannon is poor, casting can be seen cracked and concretions have started to fall off in chunks. Indeed, upon touching some of the iron, lumps in a brittle fashion fell off. Whatever happens to this historic piece, at least it is now captured in digital form and can been used in hundreds of years’ time by future researchers if needed. The cannon can be seen outside the lighthouse museum in Fraserburgh.
