This model shows swimming medals and other commemorative coins won by IU athlete Frank E. McKinney Jr. in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. McKinney Jr. won a bronze medal in the 100 meter backstroke. The medal set was digitized by the UITS Advanced Visualization Lab.
About Frank E. McKinney, Jr.
Frank E. McKinney, Jr. is a native Hoosier, born in Indianapolis on November 3, 1938. He earned his B.S. in 1961 and his M.B.A. in 1962 from Indiana University. While he was at IU, McKinney was an Olympian swimmer at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, and the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
Frank swam from 1959-61 and was captain in 1961. He won eight Big Ten, two NCAA, two Pan-American and five AAU titles. He won a bronze medal in 1956 Olympics and gold and silver medals in 1960 Olympics. Frank is a Balfour Award winner.
