More model informationWooden whaleboats were carried on whaling ships. Each ship would have between six and eight whaleboats, often suspended over the sides to leave more room on deck and allow them to be quickly lowered when needed. There would usually be six men to a whaleboat and it was the men in these boats who chased the whales. Long steering poles were often used instead of the boat having a rudder – which could be damaged during a hunt.
