Collection ID:99000215

Description:
Early telephones had a magnetic generator inside and the user was connected to the operator by turning a handle that generated electricity. The common battery system, which appeared later and became popular during the Taisho era, was designed to connect to a switchboard by simply lifting the receiver. Since a generator was no longer needed, the main unit became smaller and less prone to breakdowns.
