- The Sea-Doo name came from snowmobiles. The manufacturer, Bombardier Recreational Products, originally made Ski-Doos which are snowmobiles. And the Ski-Doo name was originally suppose to be Ski-Dog which references sled dogs. But one of the first brochures of the product misspelled the name, Ski-Doo and the name stuck. So they are called Sea-Doos because they are a water version of a snowmobile that got is name by accident.
- First made in 1968, there were complaints of overheating so they changed the engine from air cooling to water cooling. There was also complaints of the seat and handle bars. It lasted only 2 years on the market before it was discontinued.
- 1988, the Sea-Doo was re-introduced as its own brand under Bombardier, signaling a turnaround in the company’s declining fortunes.
- 1995 the sea doo was such a success they captured over half the PWC market
- In 1997 the company earned $212 million on the Sea-Doo.
