Classical wall tablet commemorating members of the Martin family, located on the north wall of the chancel of St Thomas à Becket’s Church, Capel. Carved in white marble set upon a contrasting grey stone backplate. The design centres on a large upright rectangular inscription panel with crisp serif lettering, framed at the top by a gently curving segmental pediment with flanking roundels, each enriched with a carved rosette - an understated neoclassical motif typical of mid-Victorian memorial sculpture. Below the pediment, a moulded cornice projects subtly over the inscription. The panel terminates in two small, shaped console-brackets which support the lower edge. The stepped grey backboard, following the curved outline of the pediment, enhances the monument’s silhouette and sets the white marble into relief against the church wall. Its clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and refined proportions reflect the solemn, dignified memorial style prevalent in the later 19th century.
