解説 / Description:
外側は竹編みの上に金唐革を、内張りは更紗を貼る弁当篭。金唐革は金泥で文様を表した輸入品の革で、日本では装身具として用いた。更紗もヨーロッパ渡りの舶来物。江戸中期頃には庶民にも花見の文化が広まり、富裕な人々は本資料のような弁当籠を携行した。

A lunch basket with gold-embossed kinkarakawa leatherwork over a bamboo weave on the outside and chintz on the inside. Kinkarakawa and chintz were imported from Europe. By the middle of the Edo period, the culture of cherry blossom viewing spread to the general public, and wealthy people carried bento baskets like the one displayed here.
