More model informationX-ray computed tompography scan of a 15 mm flight quenched pumiceous achnelith (FQA). These fluidal pyroclasts fragment brittley, then aerodynamically deform in flight and inflate like a balloon, quenching before they hit the ground. They are made of obsidan and their centre is filled with small bubbles. For more information, and what these pyroclasts tell us about the dangers associated with eruptions in East Africa, check out Clarke et al. 2019 Nature Communications DOI 10.1038/s41467-019-09947-8. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-019-09947-8
