The name for this form of sword, “Spadroon”, is first seen in Donald McBane’s book The Expert Sword-Man’s Companion, published in 1728. With a straight blade and a good point for thrusting, this particular type of spadroon is known as a 5 Ball Spadroon thanks to the graduated balls seen on the side ring and knuckle bow.
