76 mm air defense gun M19313D ModelNoAI
This anti-aircraft gun is located at Tuulimäki hill in Tapiola neighborhood of Espoo, Finland. It is a captured Soviet 76 mm anti-aircraft cannon model 1931. It was placed there as a memorial of the heavy air defense battery 32 “Länsi” located at Tykkimäki in Tapiola, which was part of Helsinki air defense against the 1942-1944 Soviet air raids in the II World War.
In February 1944, during the Great Raids Against Helsinki, the Soviet bombers completed 2121 flights and dropped over 16 000 bombs on Helsinki city. However, only about 530 of them hit the city thanks to the efficiency of the anti-aircraft and deception measures. The Finns deceived the Soviet forces by lighting fires on the islands outside the city and only using the searchlights east of the city, which tricked the bombers into dropping their payload there.
