Kyu-Shiba Imperial Garden is one of the oldest remaining daimyo gardens and is located in central Tokyo. This garden is a stroll-style garden centered around a pond. This land used to be at sea level, but it was reclaimed around the Meireki era, and in 1678, the roju Okubo Tadatomo built a mansion and began gardening. It was completed in 1686. Later, at the end of the Edo period, it became the Shiba mansion of the Kishu Tokugawa family. In 1871, it came into the possession of the Arisugawa Imperial family, and it was purchased by the Imperial Household Agency and became Shiba Rikyu. It was granted to the city of Tokyo in 1923. In 1971, it was designated as a national scenic spot. This pine tree like bonsai is in the garden.
