HAUNTED RUINS - DUNAMASE CASTLE, IRL Few places evoke as strong a sense of place and history as Dunamase, Co. Loais, Ireland. Today it lies in substantial ruin, but for a period, Dunamase Fort - was one of the most important political and power seats in Ireland. Synonymous with Invasion, Norman Conquest and battles between clans, tribes and nations, it was the home of the legendary Strongbow and his wife Aoife for a time in the late 1100s.
The site is open to the public and though only a shell of the former imposing fort remains, the site and loactions is undoubtedly one of the most evocative of any castle sites in Ireland with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
