This 3D model provides visualization of a situation where possibly contaminated fuels/fumes are in the air. Flying the site via a UAS provides real time 4k video and the ability to generate a referenced 3D model of the site. By not having to physically place a human in harms way, we are able to conduct an inspection that can generate large amounts of data that multiple people can then inspect.
This example has four barrels placed between caution cones. Through flying the area with a quadcopter, complete 360° visualization can occur on the fly. Individual labels on the barrels are able to be extracted from the video or 3D model. With the aid of a infrared (IR) sensor the UAS pilot could focus in on “hot spots” or areas that emit unique heat signatures.
