A British-made sniper rifle developed at Accuracy International.
In the mid-1980s, the rifle was adopted by the British Army under the designation L96. There are also rifle modifications used by the police and special forces.
The rifle is equipped with an optical sight Leupold Mark 4 fixed multiplicity x10. Also on the L96A1 are mounted the sight L1A1 “Schmidt and Bender” class 6x42 or sight LORIS “Geodesis Defense”.
In the civilian weapons market, this rifle is positioned as “sporting”, for example in Russia it can be purchased at an arms store for about 20,000 USD. The plant’s selling price is about 10 000 - 12 000 USD. AWM recorded the longest combat sniper shot in history, at a distance of 2,475 meters, carried out by the British military officer Harrison Craig.
