This is the upper rock at Achnabreck. I have a superb 3D model of the full rock but this has been trimmed to the bone to be within Sketchfab’s 100MB limit. It is not possible to take photos of the full rock surface without standing on it but, in my defence, I removed my boots & socks and only did so in bare feet.
The model here therefore only shows the business parts of the rock, the carvings, but not their full relationship with the whole outcrop with its curves, boundaries, cracks and crevices.
Achnabreck is a huge and complex set of rock art, probably the best in Britain. This panel only shows a fraction of it. The multiple rings are the most obvious motifs here and they have a number of variations in their form. There are multiple cup marks, some enclosed in curvilinear bounding grooves. but the star is the extremely rare horned spiral on the far left hand side. There are several examples at Achnabreck. They are more usually found in passage graves, in the UK & Ireland, not in outdoor rock art.
