More model informationStatue of a Jina.
Jinas are the spiritual masters of Jainism, one of the three religions born in India (the other two being Hinduism and Buddhism). The carving shown was created from soapstone, a soft easy to carve kind of stone found locally throughout India, around the 15th century CE in North Western India. The subject follows the Śvētāmbara Jain tradition, as indicated by the presence of simple clothing. He stands in the kāyotsarga pose, with arms at sides and knees straight, an important pose in Jain meditation. This work is currently located in Museum Parc Du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, Belguim.
