A piece inspired by the indigenous-traditional Ada Sword for my GetInGirl character. Of course the sheath is stylized, I know the shape is impractical irl. On the sheath is my depiction of a real indigenous-traditional Ifa (Yoruba indigenous religion) genesis story of humanity (as there are more than one). Yemoja is “the metaphysical mother of ALL the Orishas”.And in some indigenous-traditional creation-myths of Yoruba-land, Yemoja “gives Obatala water” (one cannot have clay or mud without water. Without water, its barren dirt, unsculptable). According to Baale Olukunmi Egbelade-“Yemoja is the Orisa (deity) that brought water for Obatala-the creator, god, during the time man was molded with clay by Obatala”. Thus, like Oduduwa is a Yoruba forefather, Yemoja is “the mother of humankind”, the Yoruba foremother, foremother of humanity. Yemoja & Obatala (a sex or gender fluid Orisha especially in Candomble), create the first human bodies. Olodumare (god) gave the sculpts immortal-spirit, Emi & Ori.
