The Bael tree, native to India and Bangladesh, is a slow growing deciduous tree. It produces small fragrant flowers and fruits that have many uses. The trifoliate leaves of this tree are considered holy and sacred; they symbolise the three main Hindu deities, Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva and are used in ceremonial offerings. Many parts of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. There believed to help those suffering from asthma, diabetes, diarrhoea and dysentry, and also to improve lactation in mothers.
