Aikey Brae Stone Circle, Aberdeenshire3D Model
Aikey Brae Stone Circle is the most intact recumbent stone circle in Buchan, and is typical of those found in this area in having the stone circle built onto a circular bank. It is owned by Aberdeenshire Council, designated as a Scheduled Monument (HES Ref No SM2 Aberdeenshire HER Ref NJ94NE0003). Aikey Brae is a popular visitor attraction, but its remote position & the seclusion provided by a Sitka Spruce plantation surrounding it site attracted anti-social behaviour including fire raising, vandalism & fly-tipping. The non-native Sika Spruce trees, planted in the 1950s, had begun to pose a risk to visitors & the stone circle. These trees have now been removed, and replaced with mixed native species, opened up the site to expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
Model created by Aberdeenshire Council Drone Team.
