Wreckage of USAF RB-29 44-61999 ‘Over Exposed’, This aircraft was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress (bomber) modified for Photographic Reconnaissance. These remains are on Shelf Moor, Bleaklow, Peak District National Park, UK.
3rd of November 1948 Over Exposed was on a short transport flight of less than an hour.The plane crashed in poor visibilty, the crash and the ensuing fire killed all thirteen crew members.
Over Exposed belonged to the 16th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, 91st Reconnaissance Group, 311th Air Division, Strategic Air Command, USAF. Previously it had been part of the 509th Composite Group involved in filming the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll; and during the Berlin Airlift it was used by the 16th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, 311th Air Division, to reconnoitre and map the Russian occupied area of Germany from bases in Britain.
