This is the carbine version of the AK-74, the successor to the AKM. It uses the smaller 5.45x39mm. The shorter length makes it better for close quarters or indoor combat. The sights are arguably better at quick target acquisition than the full size AK-74, however this rifle is also far less accurate, mostly owed to the shortened barrel and much reduced sight radius. The dispersion of the AKS-74U is significantly higher than most other automatic weapons. Both stock and naked its dispersion is twice that of the AK74, and three times fully equipped - before a bipod.
