Albumin is the most abundant protein in your blood. It plays a key role in generating the oncotic pressure that stops the water in your blood leaking out into tissues due to the hydrostatic pressure of the circulation. Albumin has an important function as a carrier protein, it is covered in negative charges and binding pockets which make it like a piece of molecular Velcro collecting hormones, trace elements, drugs and metabolic waste.
