From the movie “Alien” (1979) the planet LV-426 with the weck of the alien spaceship. The planet is depicted as a rocky cold and hostile to life land. This scene marks the discovery of alien life and civilization on another planet answering one of the most long-lasting question humanity as posed: is there life outside Earth? Since 1995 we have discovered more than 4000 planets of different sizes and characteristics. Some of them are gaseous giants like Jupiter, some of them are rocky planets more similar to Earth. One big question about the rocky planets is their habitability. This is a combination of many factors like distance from the host star, mass, presence of an atmosphere and last but not least a magnetic field shielding from stellar storms of high energy particles.
