Altar with Graffiti Stone Roman, AD 71 to AD 330
Found in Rochester, Northumberland DURMA.1989.50.1
This altar was found before AD 1732 near High Rochester Roman Fort, which was founded around 78 AD. The altar has evidence of graffiti and painted Roman numerals on its front. The word ‘ROCHESTER’ has also been painted in English on the side of the altar.
