Diffusible iodine contrast enhanced CT scan of the ‘common midwife toad’, Alytes obstetricans (Ascaphidae), from the collection of Dr Laura Porro (University College London; MorphoSource identifier: ark:/87602/m4/604180). Snout-vent length = 37.27mm.
Dr Porro performed the scan and segmented out the musculoskeletal system of the pelvis and hindlimb in Avizo (version 8.0). 3D meshes were created using Amira (version 2020.2) and further edited in Blender (version 3.5) by Dr Alice Leavey (University College London) to create this 3D model.
The hex codes used to colour each muscle can be found here (https://tinyurl.com/frog-muscle-hex-codes). More details for the anatomical labels, including the sources for each description of muscle function, can be found in the associated study: Leavey, A., Richards, C. T. & Porro, L. B. Comparative muscle anatomy of the anuran pelvis and hindlimb in relation to locomotor mode. Manuscript in review.
