Amenemhat III Hyksos Sphinx Statue - Tell Basta3D Model
A Hyksos styled sphinx lion statue of pharaoh Amenemhat III from Tell Basta. Also called Bubastis, the ruin city in the eastern Nile Delta region of Egypt is most known as a place dedicated to Egyptian goddess Bastet and worship of cats.
A pharaoh of the 12th Egyptian Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom, Amenemhat III is known for his many agricultural and irrigation projects. Some have proposed him to be a pharaoh during the time of the biblical Joseph.
Soon after his reign, the Middle Kingdom would end, and the Second Intermediate Period would begin with the rise to power of the so-called Hyksos people. They were a group from the region of Canaan in the Levant that moved into the Easter Delta and slowly rose to become a powerful people in Lower Egypt. The Hyksos are identified by some Egyptologists as the Hebrew people under Jacob and Joseph. Their capital city of Avaris was also known as Peru-Nefer, Pi-Ramesses, and Qantir before moving its monuments were moved by Rameses II to build Tanis. -Nate Loper
