This American B-17F Bomber named “Black Jack” crash landed 11 July 1943 off the coast of Papua New Guinea near Boga Boga (~300km East of Port Moresby).
The aircraft was on a bombing mission to Rabaul from Port Moresby, but bad weather and engine failure forced it to ditch on the return journey.
The 10 crew all survived the ditching.
The wreck is in 50m of water. The aircraft is 23m long and has a wingspan of 32m.
The original photos of the wreck were captured by recreational divers Grant Thomas and Andrew Hamilton in June 2023.
