The panel lies in an area of horizontal sandstone bedrock (4.6 x 2.9m) which is usually covered by rotting wood and larch needles in a dense forest plantation. Seldom seen since it was illustrated and photographed by Stan Beckensall between 1970-80. The forest was planted on previously open moorland in 1982.
The model was made from 29 photos taken for photogrammetry during the Northumberland & Durham Rock Art Project in 2008 and available on the ERA web-site. Visible motifs compare well with Stan’s original illustration of c1970.
