An engraved cow from Manda China (Ennedi, Chad) 3D Model
This cow measures about 35 cm from the muzzle to the tail-top. The engraved and painted cows present on the brow of the Manda China shelter are identical in profile, suggesting they are the work of art of the same artist or artists school. The depth of the incised lines and their crosscutting relationships hint at the possible drafting sequence. The top line was likely the first drawn trait, followed by the legs. The thin, shallow lines of the horns, udder, tits, and hooves completed the animal shape during the final polishing phase. Body proportions and conventional distortions of this cow figure are typical of the Tamada style (Recent Cattle Period).
