This feature was seen by me on a South Uist croft recently. It is well known to the Crofter who knows little about its provenance.
It s a large boulder standing errect and seems to be supported by a number od smaller foundation and ‘chock’ stones at its base. It stands a little over 1 metre above the ground level on the southern slope of a low ridge. The ground to the South and West of the ridge is very boggy with a small stream running North to South on the Western side.
It may be the ‘marker’ stone for a cist burial, given the apparent flat stones on the ground immediately adjacent to the main stone.
It is situated about 25metres north of the “Fairy Circle” [https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/the-fairy-ring-3810f8f32a064bf991c509031fce968f] to which it could be associated…
As usual, the range pole is aligned North-South with red to North - placed on the slope to the west of the stone. (left in opening view)
