Andrew Field, Boxed Pen and Pencil 3D Model
Artefact from the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums.
Boxed Pen and Pencil produced as souvenirs of the Inauguration of the Andrew oilfield in the North Sea, made by Ballograf. Received in 1999.
The field is roughly 230 kilometres North East of Aberdeen and was first discovered by BP in 1974. Oil production started in the area in 1996 with a life of 18 years.
In 2002 the Andrew field began to decline. A new project was undertaken in 2011 to solve this with the hope to increase the life of the field beyond 2020.
It is a known fact in the oil industry that an assembly of fittings and spools connected to a well is referred to as a Christmas tree due to it’s resemblance.
