More model informationFossil of a giant salamander. The holotype of Andrias scheuchzeri currently on display in the Teyler’s Museum in Haarlem, Netherlands.
It was originally described in 1726 as Homo diluvii testis because it was interpreted as a human that drowned in the biblical flood. Just the spine and part of the skull were visible at the time. Only later when it was properly prepped were the limbs of the animal uncovered and was then found out to be a giant salamander from the Miocene.
