RAFFMA, EG.02.001.2004 Dynasty 25 or Dynasty 26 (ca. 712-525 BCE) Painted wood and gesso 1.78 m (height) / 52.1 cm (wide) / 42 cm (thick)
This lid of a painted wooden anthropoid coffin once belonged to a woman named Tadiusir, who lived likely in 25th or 26th Dynasties of Ancient Egypt. The base and mummy are now missing. Only the exterior of the lid is decorated. The face is a modern restoration. The decoration shows a very provincial style. But like other contemporary coffins, it has imagery of costume worn by mummies and is similar to contemporary coffins from Middle Egypt. The hieroglyphic spells on the coffin consist of 7 copies of a standard offering formula that names the deceased person and promises her offerings. One of these mentions a cow-goddess, Isis-Hesat. She was worshipped in the town of Aphroditopolis, situated in northern Middle Egypt.
