“Portrait of Antinous, known as the ‘Antinous Mondragone’ Marble
THis colossal work is a posthomous portrait of Antinous, the preferred lover of the emperor Hadrian (reigned AD 117 - 138). The eyes and an attribute once placed on the top of the head (perhaps a lotus flower or royal cobra) were added separately. The bust was once inserted into a body that was probably made from another material. Around 1800, thw work was displayed in the Villa Mondragone, near Rome, which the Borghese family owned. “
Photogammetry made with 50 photos. Sculpture is found at Louvre Museum, in Paris / France.
