Antique Wood Carved Lion3D ModelNoAI
Patinated carved wood statuette lion is part of the Moseley Homestead collection, a National Register of Historic Places site in Brandon, Florida. Looking at the piece, it appears it was modified to be used as part of furnishings or as an architectural fixture. A square cut on the base is noted, and a dowel peg mounts on the bottom. This piece belonged to Julia Daniels Moseley, who admired similar works and statues of lions by Antoine-Louis Barye, a French sculptor in the mid to late 19th century. This piece resembles his Lion and Serpent sculpture, with a noble lion crushing a snake. This piece may have once also had a serpent that has since been broken off from the ground where the lion is gazing and was made in the likeness of the Antoine-Louis Barye piece that was sculpted in c. 1848.
