Antler Fragment (NHMW-PRAE-44.301)3D Model
A 3D scan of a partially worked antler fragment from a Giant Deer or Irish Elk (Megaloceros giganteus), found at the paleolithic site of Willendorf II (Lower Austria) which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Cultural Landscape Wachau”. The antler was found in layer 8 and therefore dates to 30,000 years before present. This piece from the extinct Irish Elk shows clear human modification, representing prehistoric tool-making from one of the most impressive antler materials available during the late Ice Age.
