More model informationTest Pit #1. Excavated just off-centre within Circle using a visible flat stone (poking out of turf) as a focal point. The flat stone was found to be set in the topsoil with a golf ball ‘ritually’ buried beneath. The geological horizon consisted of banded sandy clay and shale. The soil above it into which the flat stone had been placed contained 20th century waste, including the remains of what appeared to be a takeaway coffee cup.
Conclusion: Coupled with observation on TP#2, the conclusion is that the site is a folly: there is no evidence for any antiquity to the circle as a prehistoric feature as had originally been suggested.
