More model informationTest Pit #2.
Excavated against one of the uprights. The stone can be seen to be set within the topsoil layer, and does not penetrate into the geological clay deposit: visually, with the stone pointing downwards, it appeared to have been pressed into the soil stratum. The soil layer contained primarily early 20th century ceramic fragments, potentially one sherd of late 19th century ceramics, then more modern plastics.
Potential stakehole alignments in natural clay, but possibly just root ingress.
Conclusion: Coupled with observation on TP#1, the conclusion is that the site is a folly: there is no evidence for any antiquity to the circle as a prehistoric feature as had originally been suggested.
