More model informationAttribute to the Darius Painter, it was found in the first quarter of the 19th century in one of the rich tombs in Ceglie, Apulia, along with other large vases. It was bought by a German baron Koller and then by the Berlin museum where it had been kept until the World War II. In 1945 when the Soviet Army entered Berlin, Friedrichshain bunker where many museum artifacts had been kept hidden survived an explosion. Together with other severely damaged pieces the amphora was relocated to Moscow. Since 2002 it had gone through several conservation treatments: more than a hundred fragments had to be put together. First it was treated by Irina Makarova in 2004, and then by Elena Minina and Irina Borisova (in two stages: in 2011 and 2014-2015).
