April.06.2021 Cable Bay Trail, Nanaimo, BC
This model is a repurposed photoscan from 2021 of one of my friends sitting outside of a trail. I didn’t know what to do with it for a good period of time because the model had gaping holes, so I decided to simply fill them in with something else.
The trees that were modeled are based on Arbutus trees, which are a protected species of tree located along the west coast of North America. They can commonly be seen along the coast of the Georgia Strait in BC. When I started modeling a rough version of the roots, my friend mentioned how snake like they appeared, so I leaned into that observation since she happens to have multiple snake tattoos.
100 images were captured with our Sony a6400 camera. The photoscan was generated using 3Df Zephyr, and edited/retopologized in Blender. The textures for the trees are made with a series of precedural textures I made using Substance designer, which I then merged into a smart material in Substance Painter.
