More model informationAn inscribed sandstone fragment, which functioned as an abacus in the temple designated M291 at Meroe. It contains a Meroitic inscription of the Meroitic king Teqorideamani (c. 250 AD), which includes reference to the god “Aqedise (Khonsu) in Meroe” to whom the king obviously delivers a donation. This is the first evidence of a cult of this god in the city of Meroe so far. Excavated by the Liverpool Institute of Archaeology, directed by John Garstang, at Meroe in 1911. Presented to Sir Henry Wellcome, who financially supported the excavation, before arriving to Swansea on loan from the Wellcome Trustees in 1971.
