The name of the bridge comes from the legend that it was the devil himself to build the bridge after twice it had been built one, always collapsed. In return, the devil would take with it the soul of the first to pass over the bridge, and this was passed a little dog. The devil, adirandosi, would violently slammed his paws on the surrounding rocks, forming the characteristic “Potholes.”
