Arco do André (Andre’s Arch) is a large cave in Peruaçu Caves National Park, Minas Gerais State, southeastern Brazil.
This model shows the bottom half of the 100m-tall, 50m-wide, 250m-long cave and was made from photos taken with a Phantom4pro drone, flying manually inside the cave. Is this the first SfM-MVS reconstruction of a cave based on drone images? We don’t know but think so. If you know better, please get in touch.
The model shown here is a simplified (very-very-much simplified) version of the original Metashape dense point cloud (with about 500 milion points).
The 3D modelling is an activity of the research grant “Climate Research and Education in the Americas using Tree-ring and Speleothem Examples” (PIRE-CREATE),supported by Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP 2017-50085-3) and by the National Science Foundation (NSF USA) lead by Profs. Francisco Cruz (IGc-USP) and Mathias Vuille (University at Albany).
