The 236 ft sidewheel steamer Arctic was built in 1851 and ran the Detroit to Ontonagon route for the Detroit and Lake Superior Line carrying cargo, cattle and passengers. It was lost when it ran hard aground in a May fog in 1860 on the Huron Island now called Lighthouse Island. The passengers and some of the cargo made it to shore in the life boats. Today the wreckage is found in three separate areas. This model is of the steam engine on the west side of the island aparently moved there to be salvaged. For size perspective the cylinder if 50 inches in diameter and had a ten foot stroke. The condenser sprinkler head can be seen in the open end of the cylinder. The model was created from 513 30 megapixel RAW images shot by Andrew Goodman in a short shallow dive.
